Rubens Success!!

BBC2 programme ‘Great British Food Revival’ featured Mid Kent Grower AR Neaves & Sons with their new variety Rubens.  Originally from Italy, James Martin celebrity chef, and one of the presenters in this new series, chose the Neaves farm and apples to feature in his apple Charlotte recipe.  Farm Manager William Dixon impressed James whilst showing him the new varieties and modern methods of farming.  James Martin’s mission was to find out why we aren’t buying more English apples and stated several times “There is nothing better than a good old English apple”.  The programme also gave viewers some tragic statistics which showed 60% of all apple orchards have disappeared since the 1950’s and that there are only 500 commercial apple growers in the UK.  Picture below show the AR Neaves & Sons team sporting the Mid Kent Grower jackets.
