Last night, at a lavish dinner kindly hosted by the East Kent Fruit Society, Mid Kent Growers members were doubtless making plans for extensions to their domestic trophy cabinets…
John Harper (AJ Bruce-Lockhart) took the PP Bowl for the best culinary apples, Simon Mount the Vye Salver for pears, and MKG Chairman Nigel Bardsley won the Starns and Fast Cups for Cox.
Our new member for 2015, David Bradley won the Tillotson Plate for best new entrant, and Simon Mount the awe-inspiring No Trophy for best young orchard in third leaf.
Additionally, Simon was a joint winner of the Ridley and Houlding Salver for his Rubens alongside AC Goatham and S Bray, and Nigel shared the Arnold Bowl for pears with H Bryant and GH Dean. Nigel also augmented his extensive wine cellars with a mysterious prize for hygiene, which was probably the one everyone wanted to win, as you’re not expected to give the wine back at next year’s dinner.
