William and David are apple and pear growers for MKG, with Cox, Gala, Braeburn and Kanzi apples and Conference and Williams pears grown on three sites in the Wingham area.

This is a family run business over three sites. They grow a wide range of soft fruit as well Cox, Bramley and Conference Pears and are planting new variety Rubens for the future.

Since 1929 the Chambers family have been growing fruit at Northiam Farm. Mike and George run the farm and have 15 cold stores to store top fruit (9 have regulated atmospheres for long-term storage) and a modern packhouse which grades MKG members’ fruit. Discovery, Worcester, Cox, Gala and Bramley apples and Conference and Comic pears are grown.

The Neaves family, now in their 3rd generation, have been growing fruit since 1941, when Bryan’s father Archie brought Little Sharsted Farm. They have their own packhouse which grades other Mid Kent members’ fruit. They grow mainly Gala, Cox, Rubens, Braeburn apples and Conference pears.

Simon has recently won awards for the best new entrant, the best young orchard and the best orchard with more than 1,000 trees per acre and his Conference pears headed the pear class in the 2010 East Kent Fruit Society’s (EKFS) orchard competition. Simon has five orchards and grows dessert and culinary apples and dessert pears.
